Reign of terror - end of week 1

Well this week I have been raining terror on the good folk of BL.(still have 2 more terror filled weeks to go)

It's been a pretty good week all things considered :>)

Monday: Picked up the work chariot Monday morning, by the time I arrived at work I'd forgotten what is was like not to have a car. Dealt with the leftover 'stuff' from the weekend (new phones, odd messages) and got stuck into what promised to be an entertainingly challenging first week. I've written a master list of everything (I can think of) that needs to be done and when it needs to be done by. It's not as daunting as I thought it would be but I will need to have my time management wits about me. Have been instructed that I must do NO evil! (dagnabbit)

Tuesday: 8 o'clock start - how do I manage to do this without a car? More screaming kids than usual after storytime. After the library closed a select few staff assembled library shelving for the self-serve reservations (and ate pizza) . And it was a tired little teddy bear that drove home after a very long day. Still not permitted to do evil.

Wednesday: One of those full on days (pays, staff meeting, guest speaker etc.). Guest speaker spoke inspiringly on giving your home a green makeover concentrating on low cost and no cost options, and easy things to do that can make a difference. Still a tired little teddy bear driving home (and may I point out - day 3 of no evil)

Thursday: Decided to try and blitz some of the things on the master list of doom - thank you note to speaker, requests, all this weeks selection (both suppliers), scheduled some blog posts in advance (for the next week anyway), lined up a couple of others to blog, and started a list of things to palm off on others while I'm on leave. Also managed to find time to play with camtasia and reacquaint myself with my brushtail notes as well as get some of my usual work done.
Still no evil though.

Friday: The question was could I go 5 days without evil (nope it appears I couldn't).
The HRSS system was determined to taunt me - sending me emails telling me I had leave to approve and then refusing to let me approve the aforementioned leave.
This has baffled those who know about HRSS - we tried cajoling, swearing, yelling, and explaining to HRSS that this sort of behaviour was inappropriate in a local govt setting all to no avail.
This all took rather more of the day than it should have - so not quite the same level of inroad into master list of doom as i'd hoped, but hey s***t happens!

Having a great time. Hope weeks 2 & 3 are as good.

Gotta say she-who-is-sunning-herself-on-leave may not be getting her car back next week - I'm having too much fun with it.

R.I.P. Choco

It's been a tough couple of days for the midi malcs.

Choco got hit by car whilst out for a run with my brother.

KT (choc's 'official' owner) was on school camp when it happened so she didn't find out until she got back friday night.

Choc was an uber cool dog - great with kids - not at all intimidated by the midi malcs or the mini malcs, very patient & very playful.

A private memorial service was held Saturday.

Crime DVDs added to Batgirl's Library

Due to a combination of strong Aussie $ against sterling, and a yearning to revisit classic dvd favourites Batgirl has, of late, been investing some of her hard earned pennies in dvds from Amazon UK.

Three of my favourite cop shows of all time are now available on dvd and I am slowly building my collections

The three are:

Between the Lines. (BBC - UK) 1992-1994. Starred Neil Pearson as Det. Supt Tony Clark of the Ccomplaints Investigation Bureau (Internal Affairs). Also starred Tom Georgeson, Siobhan Redmond & Tony Doyle.

According to Wikipedia a new series was made in 2007 reuniting the major characters.

Hill Street Blues. (NBC -USA) 1981-1987. Starred Daniel J Travanti, Veronica Hamel, Joe Spano, James B Sikking, Bruce Weitz. Set in a US city police station (maybe Chicago?-we never found out exactly where.)

I can remember a long time ago, in a media studies subject at Swinburne, we were shown the first episode of this as an example of the elements of a successful TV pilot episode.

Homicide: Life on the street (NBC-USA) 1993-1999. Created by David Simon and based on his non-fiction book Homicide: a life on the killing streets, this was an excellent police show set in Baltimore.

HLOTS trivia.

One of Robin Williams' earliest dramatic roles was as a grieving widower in an early episode of HLOTS.

One of the HLOTS characters, John Munch, played by Richard Belzer, 'transferred' to New York and joined the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police. (Law & Order- SVU) in fact Richard Belzer has played John Munch on eight different TV series: Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, The X-Files, The Beat, Arrested Development, and most recently The Wire.

Author Jane Smiley wrote an episode of HLOTS.


So there you have it - 3 excellent crime series that I am enjoying revisiting.

The Limping Games

I have been following the Olympics.

My main interest is in the women's gymnastics and the highlights and low lights that these games have produced (in WAG)

Highlights
The Aussie team's 6th placing (the first time they have made an olympic team final using the 6-3-3 format)

Shona & Georgia making the AA final (top 24) and finishing a creditable 13th (Georgia) and 15th (Shona).
